Irene Flanhardt is an artist known for her work in photography, painting, and paper-cutting. – see her CV, photography and gallery. She gained a Bachelor of Visual Media (Fine Art) degree from Queensland College of Art and Design, Griffith University, Australia, in 2008. Between 2011 and 2023 she operated Flanhardt Galerie und Atelier.

She has exhibited her work in numerous prominent venues, including Hong Kong International Airport, Consulate General of Nepal in Hong Kong, Jao Tsung-I Academy, Landmark Atrium, Pacific Place, Taikoo Place, Canon Image Square, Hong Kong Metropolitan University (Le French May), Kai Tak Cruise Terminal, and Tai O Heritage Hotel. Her works have been published widely in numerous notable magazines, newspapers, and social media platforms.

Flanhardt has curated many exhibitions including a multi-media exhibition “Ding Ding to Kowloon” in 2017. She also founded the group “Tram Chasers” and collaborated with Hong Kong Tramways and Jao Tsung-I Academy, attracting over 20,000 visitors to the exhibition and extensive media attention.

Canon has repeatedly invited her to lead seminars and tram tours relating to her tram photography, most recently in 2024 for the 120th anniversary of Hong Kong Tramways.

In 2014, 2018, 2019 and 2024, Irene published four books, namely, “The Charm of Tai O” (大澳魅力), “Following Trams in 24 Hours” (追蹤電車24小時), “Behind the Glamour” (風光背後) and “Ding Ding – 120 Reflections of Tram Rides in Hong Kong” (電車日常:搭叮叮背後的120件事) respectively. Her published books reflect her documentary approach and her artistic themes often center on urban life, community, and cultural preservation.
