Irene Flanhardt

Irene gained her Bachelor of Visual Media (Fine Art) degree from Queensland College of Art and Design, Griffith University, Australia, in 2008.

She is a photographer, painter, installation, and paper-cutting artist. Between 2011 and 2023 she operated Flanhardt Galerie und Atelier. In December 2023, she set up a company called Artside. – see her CV, photography and gallery

Irene has exhibited in various venues including Hong Kong International Airport, Consulate General of Nepal in Hong Kong, Jao Tsung-I Academy, Landmark Atrium, Pacific Place, Taikoo Place, Canon Image Square, Hong Kong Metropolitan University (Le French May), Kai Tak Cruise Terminal, and Tai O Heritage Hotel. Her works have been published widely in numerous notable magazines, newspapers, and social media platforms.

Irene has curated many exhibitions including a multi-media exhibition titled “Ding Ding to Kowloon” in 2017. A group “Tram Chasers” founded by her collaborated with Hong Kong Tramways and Jao Tsung-I Academy in the joint exhibition which attracted over 20,000 visitors and 70 social media platforms to cover the event. After the exhibition, Canon invited Irene to try out a new camera, run two seminars to talk about her tram project and lead two tours to Whitty Street Tram Depot. In celebration of the 120th anniversary of Hong Kong Tramways in 2024, Canon invited Irene again to run two seminars and lead two tours to the same Depot.

In 2014, 2018, 2019 and 2024, Irene published four books, namely, “The Charm of Tai O” (大澳魅力), “Following Trams in 24 Hours” (追蹤電車24小時), “Behind the Glamour” (風光背後) and Ding Ding – 120 Reflections of Tram Rides in Hong Kong (電車日常:搭叮叮背後的120件事) respectively.
